Week 284 – What did you see?
Was it possible to just let go and let yourself die?
Ariel wondered that as she lay in the bed, Sebastian’s arms around her. Although her body was slowly getting stronger, her mind was getting weaker.
All the time she’d been held captive she’d wanted to live, go home, be rescued, but now that she was she didn’t know how to live anymore.
How did you process what she’d been through?
Right now it felt like there would never be a light at the end of the tunnel.
“I’m not letting you go, Ariel. I’m fighting for you, for us. Fighting for you like I should have last time,” Sebastian said.
How could she believe that?
She wanted to, so very badly, but he’d hurt her too badly, and too much time had past, and what she’d been through was too awful to deal with.
“You’re just going to give up, Ariel? Thats not the girl I remember. The girl I remember was tough enough to survive the hell she called home. The girl I remember would do for anything for anyone, she had the sweetest heart and the sunniest personality. The girl I remembered had more strength than any other person I knew.”
“The girl you remembered doesn’t exist anymore.”
“No. I don’t believe that. You don’t either, stop lying to yourself.”
A spark of anger flickered to life inside her.
How dare he tell her she didn’t know her own mind.
“I’m not a liar,” she snapped.
Sebastian grinned down at her. “There’s my girl, I knew she was still in there. And no, baby, you’re not a liar. What you’ve been through is horrific, and I know it will leave scars, but trust me, sweetheart, if anyone can get through this then its you. I believe that. I believe in you.”
Sebastian believed in her?
There’s been a time when he was the centre of her whole world, but then he’d shattered her world. Now he was back and he seemed to want her, he’d said several times that he was going to fight for her, earn her trust back.
Could she put her faith in him?
It seemed like too big an ask, yet … her heart was begging her to take the chance. Let Sebastian take care of her, carry a little of her load. But what if he wound up hurting her again?
“You believe in me?” she asked softly.
“Always, baby. Always. I never gave up on you, was just trying to become the man you deserved.”
She had no idea what he meant by that. Slowly she nodded, and a huge breath shuddered through Sebastian’s chest. His arms tightened around her, and he pressed his lips to her temple.
“I wish we had all the time in the world to get you strong, sweetheart, but we don’t. You told me someone wanted to get rid of you. Who was it? What happened? What did you see?”
