  • Week 75 – He still couldn’t get over

    This was unreal.

His eyes couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

There had to be a mistake. This couldn’t be true. It couldn’t really be happening. There had to be some other explanation.

    But what?

That was his fiancee. The woman he had known for almost four years now. The woman he loved. The woman he planned to spend the rest of his life with.

There was no denying it was here. She was standing there, long, curly chocolate brown hair reaching all the way down beneath her bottom. Amber eyes that glowed like two pieces of gold, with those impossibly long lashes. Plump, pale pink lips that were the most kissable he had ever seen. And a perfect body that felt so good that every time he touched it it was like he had died and gone to heaven.

It was her, standing there, with another man.

She had lied to him. Told him she couldn’t go out to dinner with him tonight because she had some family thing she had to take care of.

Instead she was out on a date with another man.

And he still couldn’t get over what he had just seen her do.

The woman he loved had just committed murder.

  • Week 72 – What? Now?

She was stretched out on the bed, propped up against the softest feather pillows she had ever had the pleasure of lying her head against. It was a cold day, the first snowflakes of winter were fluttering down outside, and she had a fire raging in the fireplace, the crackling of the flames was one of her favorite sounds. A book sat open in her lap but she couldn’t concentrate.

    She was happy.

    Really, and truly happy.

She had never thought that was possible.

It still hadn’t sunk in, she still got up each morning expecting pain and fear, but every day she was greeted with a new surprise, each more wonderful than the last.

    “Good morning, beautiful.”

She looked up as the man she loved entered their bedroom. She couldn’t help but smile at him. It had taken them a long time to get to this place but now she felt like a princess living out her fairytale. She’d always thought that fairytales were just that, stories, fun to read but purely fiction, they didn’t happen in real life.

    How wrong she had been.

“I need you to come out to the garden with me,” her boyfriend announced.

“What? Now?” It was snowing and cold and ten at night, what could he possibly need to show her in the garden that couldn’t wait until morning?

“Yes now,” he laughed, ruffling her hair. She hated when he did that, which was why he always did it.

    “It can’t wait?”

“No, it can’t.” He suddenly looked so serious that she started to worry. Was something wrong?

She climbed out of bed and searched for something warm to put on over her thing white cotton nightgown, she was a hot sleeper and even on the coldest of days she couldn’t wear anything too warm to bed.

“Here.” Her boyfriend held out a white fake fur coat and a pair of fur lined boots.

Quickly she shrugged into the clothes, then let him take her hand and lead her down the stairs and out into the icy night.

He didn’t stop, pulling her along behind him across the lawn, and down through the grove of pine trees at the bottom of the garden. The more they walked the more she wondered. Where were they going? What were they doing? Why couldn’t this wait until it was light?

Then they came out into a small clearing and she froze.

The little wooden gazebo where they had spent many a lazy summer’s day together had been strung in a million twinkling fairy lights.

“What’s going on?” she asked, confused.

Instead of answering he tugged her onwards, through the swirling snowflakes that danced about, covering the world in a thick carpet of white and making everything look magical.

When they reached the gazebo there were thousands of white rose petals scattered everywhere. He was up to something but before she could ask what he had dropped down onto one knee.

“Piper Lyn Hamilton, will you marry me?” He looked up at her with such uncertainty that she couldn’t hold back her tears.

Judah. Her monster. Her lover. Her prince. Her soulmate.

He had brought so much pain and suffering to her life, and yet now he filled it with more love and affection that she deserved. He still had darkness inside him, she knew that would never go away. And occasionally he still hurt her, but ever since that day where she had tried to run away and upon being found had begged him not to hurt her, he had changed. Now he was devoted to her, he treated her like a princess, he asked her opinion instead of telling her what she thought or felt, he made love to her instead of selfishly ravishing her, he kissed her and held her hand and gave her massages, he loved her.

    And she loved him.

Would life with Judah be perfect?

    No.

    Far from it.

It would be filled with mistakes, and slip ups, and pain, and punishment mixed with affection and kindness, and most of all it would be filled with love.

    “Yes.”

With that she was swept up into Judah’s arms and showered with kisses.

“I love you, Piper,” he whispered against her lips.

    “I love you, too, Judah.”

Whatever his problems, Judah was her Prince Charming, and together they were going to live out their fairytale happily ever after.

  • Week 71 – Suddenly, overwhelming stillness pervaded the night.

    What was an appropriate punishment?

    Judah wasn’t sure.

Running wasn’t acceptable behaviour and Piper already knew that. She had chosen to break the rules knowing it would make him angry and that he would have no choice but to punish her, and it would have to be a severe enough punishment that she didn’t try something like this again.

    They were a couple.

    Couples lived together.

It wasn’t like he was asking Piper to do anything crazy.

He really didn’t understand what was wrong with her. He gave her everything she wanted, he was completely and utterly devoted to her.

    Why couldn’t she see that?

Why couldn’t she see that she was his whole world?

Suddenly, overwhelming stillness pervaded the night.

Piper had been crying ever since he’d found her trying to squeeze out the bathroom window. He’d dragged her back inside, then through the house and upstairs to their bedroom where he had tossed her onto the bed.

    Now she had fallen quiet.

    Was something wrong with her?

    Panic spiked through him.

Those months without her had been the worst of his life, he wasn’t going through that again.

His belt was in his hands as he’d been contemplating using it in her punishment, but he dropped it as he rushed to the bed to check on Piper.

She was lying perfectly still but her eyes were open, and they widened with fear as she saw him get closer.

    Fear?

Why was she afraid of him?

“Piper?” He reached out and brushed the back of his knuckles across her cheek. “What’s wrong?”

“Don’t hurt me, please. I’m sorry. I won’t be bad again,” she whimpered. She still wasn’t moving and she held her body stiffly, as though bracing for the impact of whatever blow was coming.

Instead of hitting her he scooped her up and sat on the bed with her cradled on his lap. Her body was still tense, as though she suspected this was some sort of trick.

“I love you, Piper. Everything I’ve done to you in the past and everything that I’m going to do to you in the future is because I love you. You’re my gorgeous, hot, sexy, sweet princess, my world revolves around you.” He touched his lips to her temple, tilted her face up to drop a kiss to her lips, then he tucked her head under his chin and just held her.

Bit by bit Piper relaxed against him. “I love you too, Judah,” she whispered.

  • Week 70 – Piper crawled out the very small bathroom window

She had to get out of here.

    She had to.

It was the only thing in the world she cared about right now.

Not the raging headache hammering at her temples like a drill gone into overdrive.

Not the horrible nausea swimming in constant circles in her stomach.

Not the overwhelming sense of dizziness that made it fee like she was walking on a carousel on which someone had turned the speed up to high.

She didn’t care about any of that.

Her only focus was on leaving this house.

“Piper,” Judah called out her name in a sing-song fashion as though they were kids playing hide and go seek.

    But this wasn’t a game.

She was fighting for her life.

She loved Judah, she probably always would, but he was crazy and if she didn’t get out of here he would end up killing her.

    Of that she was certain.

Carefully easing the window open, terrified that she might make a noise and alert him to where she was, Piper crawled out the very small bathroom window.

    And got stuck.

Her head and one arm were through, out in the warm night air, so close to freedom they could feel it. The rest of her was stuck in the bathroom, in the prison that would soon become her tomb.

She struggled, she wriggled, she pushed and she pulled.

None of it did any good.

The only thing she achieved was wearing out her already weak body.

“Found you,” Judah sounded excited and not angry, at least that was something.

“I-I’m s-sorry,” she stammered hoping to appease him.

“I know you are.” His hand rested on her backside, caressing it softly. Then he slapped it, hard, hard enough to make her yelp in pain. “But you must be punished all the same.”

Piper wondered what the love of her life, her husband, the father of her child, had in store for her. Whatever it was she knew it wouldn’t be good.

  • Week 69 – I was cooking trying to come up with something

Finally his life was back to normal.

    Back to being perfect.

Judah hummed happily as he stirred the soup on the stove. He was cooking homemade pumpkin soup because it was Piper’s favorite, it was a sort of welcome home meal. Although she had been with him for almost a week now all of that time she had been burning up with a raging fever and slipping in and out of consciousness, delirious whenever she was awake.

But now she truly back with him, and this time she was never leaving.

Didn’t she know he couldn’t live without her? Didn’t she know that she was his oxygen and that without her he would shrivel up and die?

He wanted to pick her up and take her to bed to ravish that beautiful body of hers but he was trying hard to be a gentleman. This had all been a shock to her and she had been sick, a combination of the wound he’d given her when he’d gotten her back getting infected and the flu he believed, she needed time to adjust. But once she had all bets were off.

Right now though he wanted to do something special for her, something to celebrate them reuniting. Something that showed her how much he loved her and how glad he was to have her back home again.

Leaving the soup on the stove he went to check on her. “Piper, I was cooking trying to come up with something and . . .” he trailed off as he stepped into the living room.

    It was empty.

    Piper was gone.

Where could she be? He had the place locked up tight, he had no intention of letting her get away again. She had to be hiding around here somewhere and when he found her he was going to have to punish her.

He was done being a gentleman, it was time to claim what was rightfully his.
