Week 481 – Well that took a turn I wasn’t truly expecting
“Umm,” Bridget said slowly, not sure how to broach the topic of the fact that she didn’t think they were heading towards the police station with a man who was twice her size and who she’d stupidly gotten into a car with just because he saved her life.
Had he?
What if he was part of the attempted abduction and he was just using a different method to lure her in since she’d been difficult to abduct the traditional way?
“Yeah?” he asked, glancing over at her, and his green eyes appeared clear and deception free, but what did she know, this man was a stranger, maybe he was just a good actor.
“Well its just that I …”
“You what, darlin’?” he prompted as they took a corner a little faster than she was comfortable with.
“Well that took a turn I wasn’t truly expecting,” she mumbled, then felt her cheeks heat. “I mean, the turn you just took, we’re not going towards the police station, and you said-“
“I thought the police station would be too loud, too busy, after what you’d been through. My brother is a cop, I texted him while we were driving and asked him to meet us there.”
“Your brother is a cop,” she repeated.
“Yep.”
“And you texted him already.”
“Sure did.”
“I didn’t see you text anyone.”
“That’s because you’re not really supposed to text and drive,” he said, throwing her one of those dimple studded grins as he held up a phone in his left hand.
“Oh,” she said softly, not sure what else to say. Something didn’t feel right, but at the same time this man didn’t feel like a threat. Her instincts were obviously on the outs tonight, because she hadn’t even registered the threat in the parking garage before it was too late.
Now all she could do was hope she hadn’t made the same misjudgement getting into the car with Brad.
“See,” he prompted, pointing up ahead where she could see a patrol car parked outside a nice brick house.
“Your brother and your house,” she said slowly, more confused by the second.
“Yep and yep. Trust me, Bridget, I got this.”
Trust him? Why did it feel like he was talking about something so much bigger than just letting her talk to his brother and report what had almost happened tonight in a less stressful environment.
As Brad pulled into his driveway, Bridget knew she’d definitely made a mistake in coming here, she just didn’t know yet how big of a mistake it was.
