  • Week 127 – They lived happily ever after

    Awake.

    Asleep.

    Awake.

    Asleep.

Amelia didn’t know whether she was conscious or unconscious, awake or asleep, all she knew was that she was in pain.

Agonising pain that gripped her and refused to release her.

    Logan.

    Where was he?

    He’d been hurt.

    Peter too.

And she had shot her sister.

    Who was dead?

    Who had survived?

Somehow Amelia managed to open her eyes and search the room for Logan.

    She couldn’t see anyone.

It was like they had all evaporated into thin air.

Propping herself up on her elbows she saw him. He was lying on the floor beside the bed.

    He wasn’t moving.

Amelia shuffled sideways and slid down to the floor to join him.

“Logan,” she whispered, but all that came out was a croak.

    She was so tired.

Curling up at his side, she rested her head on the floorboards.

    Sleep.

    She just needed to sleep.

“No,” she tried to rouse herself. “Sleep means death.”

Cold, she pressed herself closer to Logan. It didn’t look like for them there would be a ‘they lived happily ever after’, it looked more like they were instead going to die in each other’s arms.

The world began to shimmer around her, then faded into a blank, empty, darkness.

  • Week 126 – It can’t be true

“I think I can explain that,” said a pretty blonde who was the spitting image of Amelia. “I’m the evil twin, and Ami is the good twin.”

Logan’s gaze darted to Amelia who was sitting on the bed beside him, frozen in shock. He was pretty shocked too, but he didn’t have time to be frozen, Peter and Amelia’s sister were both armed, and his weapon was in the other room.

He didn’t see a way where both he and Amelia walked out of this alive.

“I got sick of living in the shadows of the family princess and decided it was time to take her out. Only the sneaky little thing keeps getting away,” Amelia’s twin grinned.

“It can’t be true, it can’t be true, it can’t be true,” Amelia was murmuring over and over again. She was clearly in shock, and she’d been injured falling out of her bedroom window just a few hours ago, he was surprised she was still conscious after all of that. While he was impressed beyond measure with her strength he wasn’t sure that she was in a place where she was going to be able to help them get out of here.

“So what are you doing here?” he turned angry eyes on his brother, how could Peter do this? They were brothers, they’d been close their whole lives, how could Peter break into his house, knock him unconscious, then tie up Amelia and rape her? It made zero sense to him.

“Love makes you do crazy things,” Peter said, turning adoring eyes on the insane woman.

“This is well beyond crazy. And you’re a cop?” he asked incredulously. He’d never seen Amelia’s twin before, but he found it hard to believe that someone this unbalanced could be a police officer.

“Detective Harlow Zeke,” she grinned back at him. “And actually I’m a very good cop, good enough that I have this all wrapped up. You were the only one with Amelia when she was attacked, you’re the one who brought her to the hospital, you’re the one that snuck her out and ran off with her. When the cops find this place they’re going to find poor dead Amelia shot with your weapon, and you dead, stabbed, because Amelia put up a great fight and managed to stab you, but you shot her before she could escape.”

The woman had really put a lot of thought into this. “How does Peter figure into all of this?” Surely everyone knew that his brother had come on the run with him and Amelia.

“I’m the hero,” Peter grinned. “I came because I didn’t know what you had done, but when I find out I help Amelia kill you, only not in time to save her.”

They thought they had this all figured out. What was worse was that it looked like they did.

“Then Harlow and I get to spend the rest of our lives together,” Peter gushed, eyes only for his woman.

“Actually about that,” Harlow said, “I’m the only hero of this story.” With lightening speed the woman threw a knife that embedded deep in his shoulder, then fired a shot at his brother, and then one at Amelia.

    Logan saw it coming.

Pain was pulsing through his body as his blood gushed down body, and he used the last of his energy to throw his body at Amelia’s trying to take the bullet before it got her.

    He failed.

Amelia grunted in pain as she was shot, but as she fell back against the bed she pulled out a gun. His back up that he had forgotten he had given her on the drive here should they be separated for any reason. She fired, and hit her target with surprising accuracy.

All four of them were hurt.

    Dying.

The coppery smell of blood was the last thing Logan remembered before darkness washed over him.
  • Week 125 – He’s not a cop though

    Logan just stared at her.

His eyes wide in confused shock.

“He’s not a cop though,” he finally said. “At the hospital you were upset about cops.”

Her memories were starting to come rushing back, so fast that it made her dizzy, and she moaned, pressing a hand to her aching head.

    This was all so confusing.

Too much had happened too quickly and all she wanted do was lie down and go to sleep.

But she couldn’t, because the man who had been in her bedroom, who had followed her to Logan’s house had also come here. He was right outside the bedroom and Amelia was terrified that he was going to come in at any second.

“Amelia, are you sure it was Peter? Why would my brother hurt you?”

“Because someone told him too,” she whispered, the more her memories came back the scareder she became.

“Who? Who asked him to hurt you?” Logan demanded.

    “M-my sister,” she whispered.

“Why would your sister want to hurt you?” Logan still looked and sounded confused.

Before she could offer an explanation a voice behind them made them both jump.

“I think I can explain that,” her sister, and Peter stood in the doorway, both armed, and both grinning at them manically.
  • Week 124 – You’re killing me

    Something was wrong.

Logan could tell from the way Amelia was shaking in his arms. She must have remembered something. Something big from the looks of things.

“Amelia, did you remember something?” he asked, trying to pull her back so he could see her face but the more he tried the more she curled into him, clinging to him.

    “M-my head h-hurts,” she whispered.

“I think thats enough for tonight,” Peter announced. “She really needs some rest.”

As much as he wanted information, Logan had to agree with his brother. He’d put too much pressure on Amelia and it was starting to show.

“Yeah, okay,” he said. “Come on, lets get you into bed.”

He stood and scooped Amelia into his arms, she buried her face against his neck, her cheeks were wet with tears and he felt a stab of guilt. He never should have convinced her to try this tonight. She’d just been through so much and then instead of letting her rest so she could regain some strength, physically and mentally, he had made her relive it.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he entered the bedroom and laid her down on the bed.

“D-don’t let me go,” she said, sounding panicked and tightening her hold on him.

“You’re killing me, darlin.” Guilt was jabbing at him, and every tear she shed was like another knife in his chest. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry for pushing you. Don’t worry about it, okay? We’ll figure this out, I don’t want you to put this kind of pressure on yourself. We’ll find another way to figure out who hurt you.”

Amelia sobbed and tried to get closer to him, which was virtually impossible since she was already plastered against his chest.

    “I-I know,” she wept.

    “Know what?” he asked, confused.

    “W-who it was.”

“You remembered?” This time he forcefully pried her off of him so he could see her face.

She nodded, shaking so badly he could hear her teeth chattering.

    “Who was it?”

She shuddered and tried to wriggle closer again but he held her firmly. He needed to know who it was so he could go and arrest the man.

    “Amelia? Tell me.”

Her terrified eyes met his, tears still tumbling down her pale cheeks. “It was Peter.”
  • Week 123 – Oh wow. I can’t wait for more

“It was kind of blurry,” Amelia cautioned, she didn’t want to get Logan’s hopes up because she truly didn’t remember any more than bits and pieces. “But when I heard the spoon clink against the teacup I remembered something from earlier.”

“What did you remember?” Logan asked.

Since she was sitting in his lap she could feel how tense he was. Amelia knew how badly he wanted to catch this guy, and not just because he was a cop. Or because he too had been injured when the man broke into his home. She knew that part of his desire to find this man was because of her. Because she had been hurt and there was something developing between them.

“Amelia?” Logan jostled her gently when she didn’t answer. “Did you remember something?”

“I remember being on your bed. I remember the sound of a teaspoon tapping against a cup, it woke me up. I couldn’t move. I remember him talking, I can hear his voice but I can’t hear what he’s saying. I remember him touching me,” her breath started to catch as slowly more memories began to trickle in.

“Shh, its alright,” Logan said, leaning down to touch his forehead to hers. “Do you want to stop?”

“No,” she said adamantly. “I want to do this, I want to remember, I hate not knowing what happened and who hurt me.” As much as her returning memories scared her, they made her feel like oh wow. I can’t wait for more, because she knew the more was only going to get worse. But she didn’t have a choice. She was the only one who had seen this man.

“Close your eyes and try to concentrate,” Logan told her, he started rubbing circles on her back, the motion both soothed her and lulled her into a sort of trance.

Amelia tried to put herself back in Logan’s house, tried let herself relax, tried to focus on the details. “I see a face, but I can’t make it out,” she said, frustrated. It was disconcerting not to have access to her own memories.

“You’re trying too hard, relax, just focus on his face but don’t try to force it to come to you,” Logan coached.

She tried to do as he suggested. She stared at the fuzzy face as though it were actually still ahead of her and let her memories just come back to her when they were ready.

    It wasn’t working.

Amelia was just about to give up when the blurry oval started to change. Bit by bit the features became recognisable, and with an audible gasp she realised that she actually knew who the man was.
