  • Week 122 – Loved this

“Whoa,” Logan tightened his arms around Amelia when she suddenly went limp in his grip.

“What happened?” Peter asked as he came rushing over, setting a tray with three cups of tea and a teapot down on the table beside them.

“I don’t know, we were talking, and she just passed out,” he explained. “Right when you walked in here with the tea,” he added thoughtfully. Was it the smell that had triggered something and caused her to faint? A clue maybe about what-and who-had attacked her?

    “Logan?” Amelia’s voice fluttered weakly.

“Right here, darlin,” he assured her. Keeping a hold of her he gently eased her back so he could see her face. There were dark circles under her eyes, and she was ghost level pale, breaking her out of the hospital had been a bad idea, but he couldn’t see an alternative. A cop had attacked her, he knew it, and there was no way he was going to risk her safety by keeping her somewhere the entire police department was aware of.

“Did your memories come back?” Peter asked.

“Uh uh,” she shook her head, her fingers curled into his shirt and she inched closer.

Sensing that she wasn’t telling the truth, not because she wanted to lie to him but because she was feeling afraid and overwhelmed. Logan knew what she needed, since his brother was hovering beside them he couldn’t kiss her like he wanted to, but he did touch his lips to hers, and immediately he felt her settled.

“Loved this,” she murmured when he straightened.

“What did you remember?” he asked, as much as he wanted to give her time to come to terms with what she’d been through, they didn’t have time. They needed to know who had attacked her so that he could get the guy in custody and make sure that Amelia stayed safe.

“Its just bits and pieces,” she told him.

“That’s fine,” he said as he dragged her into his lap, giving her at least an illusion of safety so she felt secure enough to tell them what she knew.

“It was kind of blurry, but when I heard the spoon clink against the teacup I remembered . . .”
  • Week 121 – Bad idea + A spoon clicking on a tea cup triggered fear, and she fainted

    “This is a bad idea.”

    “Yeah, you said that already.”

Amelia looked from Logan to his brother Peter. They’d been having this same argument ever since they’d left the hospital over an hour ago.

“No one said you had to come with us,” Logan told his brother.

“When did you get your MD?” his brother shot back. “Did you forget that we ran from the hospital? How were you planning on looking after her if I wasn’t here?”

“We didn’t run from the hospital,” Logan corrected. “She doesn’t remember what happened, or who hurt her, but she freaked out when she heard cops were coming, we’re simply keeping her someplace safe until we figure this out.”

They’d been talking about her like she wasn’t here ever since Logan had snatched her up and snuck her out of the emergency room and into his brother’s car. He’d sat in the backseat with her on his lap and that was probably the only thing that had kept her from freaking out.

    She wished she knew why.

Why did the idea of talking to cops scare her badly?

Logan was a cop and she wasn’t afraid of him. Was he right and it was her subconscious trying to protect her because the man who had been in her room and had gone to all the trouble of following her to Logan’s been a police officer?

Amelia didn’t want to think about it right now. She didn’t want to think about any of this. She wanted everything to go back to normal, she wanted her plain, boring life back, she wasn’t cut out for this kind of thing. She didn’t even like scary movies, and now her life had turned into a scary movie and as much as she wanted to turn it off she couldn’t.

“Aren’t you going to call your boss, or your partner, tell them whats going on?” Peter asked.

“No,” Logan said simply as he set her down on the couch.

As soon as his arms released her Amelia sucked in a terrified breath. It didn’t go unnoticed.

“I’m not leaving you,” Logan told her. The blue eyes that she had once thought dreamy now were the only thing holding her together. The look on his face told her that if they’d been alone he’d be kissing her right now.

    She wished they were alone.

“I’ll make us something to drink,” Peter muttered, stalking out of the room.

Looked like he was her fairy godfather tonight, granting her wishes.

Slowly, Logan dipped his head and very lightly brushed his lips across hers. She knew he was trying to bear in mind the fact that he’s just sprung her from the hospital but she didn’t wanted to be treated like she might crack into a million pieces at any second. Talking about her like she wasn’t there was one thing but she wasn’t going to have him kissing her like she was some delicate little child.

Amelia wrapped an arm around Logan’s neck and pulled herself off the couch cushions. She kissed him like she had no intention of stopping with just a kiss.

    Which she didn’t.

Her free hand was already trying to undo his shirt buttons.

“Whoa, darlin’,” Logan’s hands curled around hers, and she felt a small rumble in his chest. “If my brother comes back in here and finds us making out he’s going to lecture both of us, and trust me you do not want to hear a doctor lecture you.”

    Right.

    He was right.

    They couldn’t make out now.

She was about to tell Logan she could wait until they were alone, but the sound of a spoon clicking on a tea cup triggered fear, and she fainted.

    He kissed her.

    Logan had just kissed her.

For the moment that pushed every other thought out of Amelia’s head. She had dreamed about that ever since she’d seen him moving in across the street but she had never thought that it would happen. She was too shy, he was too sexy, in her mind that meant nothing between them could ever happen.

And yet here he was kissing her.

“Sorry,” he mumbled and abruptly straightened. “I shouldn’t have done that.”

That was not what you wanted to hear from the guy who had just kissed you

Apparently noticing her face falling, Logan quickly added, “Not because it wasn’t a great kiss but …” he waved his hand at her and the hospital room.

    Right.

    She’d just been attacked.

    Twice.

And now she was in the hospital.

“Do you remember anything, Amelia? Anything at all? Even the tiniest of things could be helpful.” His ice blue eyes piercing as he looked at her, as though he wanted to reach inside her brain and find the answers he needed.

If he could do that she would gladly let him, she couldn’t remember anything.

But something was niggling at the back of her mind – if only she could remember what it was. Every time she tried to grab hold of it it darted away.

“I don’t remember anything, I’m sorry,” she replied in a small voice. She hurt all over and all she wanted to do was just curl up and go to sleep and not wake up until this was all over.

“No, don’t be sorry,” Logan told her, taking her hand and squeezing tightly. “Pete said that you had a concussion, coupled with the psychological trauma its no wonder you can’t remember. We will figure this out.”

She wanted to believe that but her hope was slipping away.

“Logan, your partner and some other cops are on their way,” her doctor, Pete as Logan had called him, stuck his head in the door.

    Cops.

For some reason that sent a shudder through her and she began to shake.

It didn’t go unnoticed. “Amelia, whats wrong?” Logan asked.

“I don’t know,” she answered honestly.

“Something about what my brother just said upset you,” he said thoughtfully. “Maybe it was a cop who hurt you.”

    Maybe.

The problem was she had no idea.

Her body might remember things but her brain didn’t.

“If it was a cop then you can’t be here when they get here,” Logan seemed to be speaking more to himself than to her. “We have to get you out of here until I can figure this out. Pete, tell them she discharged herself and you don’t know where she went.”

Without asking her what she thought, Logan tossed back her covers and began disconnecting the machines she was attached to. Then he wrapped a blanket around her, picked her up, and headed out the door.

    She should argue with him.

Tell him she wasn’t going anywhere with him, she hardly knew him, she couldn’t just run away with him.

    But she didn’t.

All she did was curl her arm around Logan’s neck, and rested her head on his shoulder. The only thing she trusted right now was Logan, and she would gladly go anywhere with him.
  • Week 119 – Well that’s a hellava story

Logan paced up and down the ER. What was taking so long? They’d been here for over an hour already and yet he hadn’t been let in to see Amelia, nor had anyone given him an update on how she was doing.

    He was going crazy.

Over and over in his mind he had been replaying everything that happened tonight, trying to see how he could have gotten a different outcome.

Unfortunately he couldn’t come up with anything.

    “Logan.”

He turned when he heard his name called, and saw his brother, who happened to work in the emergency room of the hospital where the ambulance had brought Amelia. He had insisted that his brother be the one to treat her, partly because he knew he’d definitely be kept in the loop, but also because he trusted his brother with Amelia. They still didn’t know who had been in her house and attacked them at his place, so as far as he was concerned every single person was a suspect.

“How is she?” he demanded, rushing his brother.

“Concussion, cracked ribs, bruising, the cuts on her chest weren’t deep enough to need stitches, and the burn on her leg has been treated,” Pete explained.

    “She’s going to be okay?”

“She will be,” his brother assured him.

The words tried to stick in his throat but he forced them out. “I found her naked was she sexually assaulted?”

    “She was.”

That made him want to hit something, hit someone, specifically the someone who had hurt Amelia. When he found this guy he was not going to be responsible for his actions. “Does she remember anything?”

    “She says she doesn’t.”

“You believe her, right?” He’d seen the fear on Amelia’s face and he didn’t think that she would lie to him but he needed more than that for his report.

“She hit her head twice, add the psychological trauma, and I believe she truly doesn’t remember. What went down tonight?”

“Someone broke into Amelia’s house, I heard screams and found her lying on the ground outside her house, she’d jumped out of the window. Someone set her house on fire, and the debris burned her leg. I brought her to my place to put cold water on the burn while we waited for the paramedics and whoever was inside her house must have followed us. They knocked me out and when I came to I found her tied up with the cuts on her chest.”

“Well that’s a hellava story,” Pete said.

    It was.

And he had no idea how he was going to end the story. He needed to find this man but he didn’t know how. “Can I go and see her?”

    “Sure.”

Logan walked over to the small cubicle where Amelia was and paused at the door. What did he say to her? He had promised her that they would find a way to sort this out but he had no idea how he was going to do that.

When he opened the door her large amber eyes found his and they were so full of fear, and confusion, and hopelessness, but also trust.

    She trusted him.

Without even thinking about what he was doing, Logan crossed the room and kissed her.

    Hands were touching her.

Amelia had no idea why but for some reason she sensed this wasn’t a good thing.

Her eyes snapped open and when she saw Logan standing above her she immediately relaxed. If he was here then everything was okay.

    Wait.

Why exactly was her sexy neighbour in her bedroom?

Just then he looked down at her and faked a smile when he saw she was awake. She could tell it was fake because it didn’t reach his eyes, she just didn’t know why.

“Everything’s going to be okay, an ambulance should be here any second and more cops are coming,” he told her.

    An ambulance?

    Cops?

    What was going on?

He reached over and fiddled with her wrist and it wasn’t until he set it gently down at her side that she realised she was tied to a bed. And it wasn’t her bed. Where was she?

“Logan?” she croaked, her voice was weak and that scared her. Amelia could feeler heart start to race and her pulse begin to pound. “What’s going on?”

He cocked his head, his brow furrowing. “What do you mean?”

“Where am I? What happened? Why am I tied to a bed?” she rattled off questions, her uneasiness was growing by the second. She might not remember anything since spying on her neighbour and then going to bed but she knew something bad had happened.

“You don’t remember?” he asked her.

Amelia shook her head then wished she hadn’t when pain sliced through her skull.

“Someone broke into your house, you screamed and woke me up, then you jumped out of your bedroom window. I found you but someone set your house on fire. You burned your leg so I brought you to my place to put cold water on the burn while we waited for the paramedics and whoever was indoor house must have followed us. They knocked me out and when I came to I found you like this.”

That sounded like something out of a book. “Amazing can’t wait to read more,” she mumbled.

    “What?”

“Nothing,” she said as she looked down her body. Her other wrist and both her ankles were still tied up, and she was naked.

    Naked.

Yeah that made her fear rack up sever notches.

What had happened to her once Logan had been knocked out.

“Its going to be okay, Amelia,” Logan said noticing her growing fear. “I don’t know how, but I promise you that we will figure this out.” He freed her remaining limbs and then wrapped her in a blanket and lifted her into his arms, cradling her gently. “I promise, we’ll work this out,” he said again.

As she clutched at him, the only solid thing in her world right now, for some reason she believed that he could make all of this better.
