Week 479 – You’re shaking let me take you home
“Brad?” Bridget repeated, eyeing the man warily. He’d come out of nowhere right as she was being attacked, and even though the man who had grabbed her had jumped back into the van and taken off didn’t mean that this man wasn’t involved, or wasn’t another threat.
She had absolutely no intention of escaping the frying pan to wind up in the fire.
“Brad,” he agreed, shooting her a smile that had the most adorable pair of dimples popping out. Actually the man was almost impossibly gorgeous. He was tall, likely six foot three or four, he clearly worked out because he wore a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt that molded to his muscles. His eyes were a clear, bright green, and he had a mop of black curls that made him seem handsome and cute all at the same time.
But she wasn’t on a date, and this man had arrived right as someone tried to kidnap her.
“Someone tried to kidnap me,” she murmured, that fact starting to sink in and her body began to shiver violently.
“They did,” Brad agreed as he slowly knelt beside her, reaching out a hand towards her but stopping short from making contact. “But they didn’t, because you fought them off.”
“Because you came and interrupted,” Bridget corrected even as her teeth began to chatter.
“Good Samaritan services,” he joked, and amusement danced along with the concern in those beautiful eyes of his.
“What do I owe you?” she joked back, trying to use humour to shove away the terror or she was going to do something embarrassing like devolve into a sobbing, hysterical mess in front of his gorgeous man.
“First one’s free,” he teased, before his face grew serious. “You’re shaking let me take you home.”
“I have to call the police, report what happened,” she protested, even though the idea of going home and spending an hour in a bubble bath with her favourite candles flickering around her, then snuggling with her cat did sound delightful.
Something flickered through his gaze, but it was gone before she could determine what it was, and his steady smile and earnest concern remained in place.
“Okay then, how about I take you to the police station?”
“What about my car?” she asked, although honestly, Bridget didn’t hate the idea.
“I can take you home afterwards and then bring a friend here with me to get your car,” Brad offered.
“Why are you being so nice to me? You don’t even know me.”
“Haven’t you ever heard that if you save someone’s life you become responsible for them?”
“I thought it was if someone saves your life then you owe them.”
“Okay then,” he said again, and his dimples popped back out as he grinned. “Then you owe me, and the marker I’m calling in is that you let me take you to the police station.”
It was probably a mistake to trust him, but Bridget was feeling shaky and scared and she didn’t want to be alone, even if she was with a stranger. So she nodded slowly, and didn’t protest when the man took her elbow and helped her stand, then guided her over to his vehicle which was the only other one left in the parking garage.
Please don’t let this be a mistake, Bridget whispered to herself as he helped her into the passenger seat of his car and leaned over her to do up her seatbelt.
